Life Care Centers of America ’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our May 2018 winners:
Leanza Ochoa, certified nursing assistant at Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver, Colorado, is always willing to help anyone who needs it. One of her patients likes to read books, and Ochoa often brings her books from home for the patient to read. Ochoa will also take the residents outside and sit with them during her lunch break because she knows they like being outdoors.
Carol Lyle, rehab assistant at Life Care Center of Melbourne, Florida, showed extraordinary kindness when she noticed the Velcro on a resident’s boots was not staying attached. Lyle noted that the resident had two boots with the same issue and asked if she could take them home and sew the Velcro on better. Not only that, but she also washed both of his boots. Lyle also mends pajamas for the residents and sometimes even sews new pajama sets for them.
LeeAnn Hird, licensed practical nurse and unit manager at Life Care Center of Acton, Massachusetts, went above and beyond for her residents by making their prom night unforgettable. The facility held a senior prom event for their residents, helping them get dressed up and recreating a “prom” atmosphere. Hird brought in her own dresses, jewelry and hair products for the ladies and brought in ties and jackets for the men. She assisted in applying makeup and made sure their hair was done nicely. Hird even brought in her 7-year-old son, dressed in a suit, to escort a lady in the facility.
